I Carried Fabric Across the World. Here’s Why
When my family and I moved to Kansas, I didn’t know what would happen next.
But I knew one thing: I couldn’t leave my fabrics behind.
I packed them gently into my suitcase, including some pieces of the new, basic, earthy plaid prints made from linen and cotton, as well as little floral pieces. They weren’t just materials. They were comforted. They were memories. They were pieces of me.
Sewing has always been more than work for me. It was my escape during hard times, my therapy when I felt lost, and my way of building something beautiful out of the ordinary.
Starting over here, in a new country, I didn’t have a studio or shelves full of tools. But I had what mattered: my hands, my skills, and my story. That’s how Hexi Hau-made was born again.
Now, every bag I sew carries that journey. Every drawstring pouch, every quilted tote, and more are stitched with resilience, warmth, and hope.
If you’re reading this, thank you for being part of this new chapter. It means more than words can say. Whether you’re a fellow maker, a supporter of handmade, or just someone who loves meaningful things. I’m glad you’re here.
Let’s keep sewing stories together.
With all my heart,
Hau
